Data Privacy Agreements
How we protect student data, and the agreements we sign with districts.
Questions about student privacy and data protection are exactly the right ones to raise before getting started, and we're glad to provide whatever assurances and paperwork your district needs.
Start here
Two resources cover most of what a privacy or IT team will want to see:
- Our privacy policy
- Our independent, third-party evaluation from Common Sense Privacy
How we protect student data
Polaris is built to align with FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA. In practice that means:
- We do not sell student data or use it for advertising.
- Access is limited and role-based.
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Student data is stored on servers located in the United States.
Signing a DPA with your district
We're a member of the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) and are glad to execute a Data Privacy Agreement with each participating district.
If your district prefers to move ahead independently, we're happy to complete a template DPA, including the SDPC's National Data Privacy Agreement. And because these agreements live in the SDPC registry, a district can often adopt (or "piggyback" on) an agreement another district has already executed, rather than starting from scratch.
The simplest next step
Usually it's a short call with someone on your team to walk through the product, answer any privacy questions directly, and map out the paperwork. Reach out through the contact form and we'll set it up.
